The piece originates from an early morning walk I took at the foot of the South Downs in Sussex. It's a landscape I know well, but the light that day transformed the familiar into something newly observed. The morning light, with the low-lying mist obscuring a cluster of trees in the distance, instantly reminded me of a 3ct Montana sapphire with a beautiful inclusion that's been in my collection for a while. Like a little landscape captured in a stone – imperfectly perfect.

The scene was completed by a 'day moon', reflecting the morning sun against the blue sky. That suspended moment - still yet full of movement - became the foundation of the design.

The Montana sapphire is anchored to a band of 9ct yellow gold that's cast directly from a fragment of English Oak bark, found on the same walk. Orbiting above the sapphire is a small white diamond, representing the day-moon. Set together, these elements capture a moment of nature and translate it into form.
